The Women’s Shelter was established on June 2nd 1982. It was decided on the inaugural meeting to open a shelter for women who were not able to stay in their own homes due to violence. On December the 6th on the same year the Women’s Shelter was opened.

The board is composed of five individuals and two substitutes. The board is elected on the organizations’ annual meeting. The annual meeting is also where main decisions are being made on the organizations operations. The board holds monthly meetings where members of the implementation team and the board itself discuss main issues at every given time, decisions are being made and future assignments and projects are drafted.

Members of the implementation team are; the managing director, shift manager and the financial director. Other members of staff at the Shelter are a social worker and counselors with various education such as psychology, gender studies, sociology, criminology, anthropology and family counselling.
