In 2016, the Reykjavík Women's Shelter premiered its animated film Talking About Violence. The film's main goal is to convey certain messages to children and also to make the group of children living with domestic violence more visible in society.
The important messages that children are left with after watching the cartoon include that domestic violence is not a private matter for families; that domestic violence can occur in all family patterns, and that the violence is never the child's fault because it is adults who are responsible for ensuring that children feel comfortable.
In the film we encourage children to report violence because there is always someone who can help. You can also always call the Children's Number, which is 112. It is always open and there is always someone to answer you.
The film was made with funds that Jón Gnarr donated to the Women's Shelter in Reykjavík in 2014. The Icelandic Fund for Equality supported the presentation of the material in the country's primary schools and other institutions that work with children.
