- Everyone has the right to live a violence-free life.
- The perpetrator in a violent act is always the one responsible.
- The effects and consequences of violence on children are severe. Even if they do not see the violence directly or are being subject directly to the violence. Indirect experience also has severe consequences.
- There are many ways out of a violent relationship. One way is seeking support from the Women’s Shelter, which is open 24/7 every day of the year. Tel. 561 1205.
The consequences of domestic violence can be very dangerous. That is why it is important to keep a few points in mind.
Have a safety plan
- What is my safety net – support from family or friends – could I escape there?
- Decide on a „key word“ which the children, family and friends know that the police should be called.
- Teach the children to dial 112 in a case of an emergency.
- Explain the safety plan to the children
- Think of an escape route – what is the best and easiest way for me to exit? – which door/window/stairs/elevator would be best to use?
Practical issues
- Pack necessary clothing for you and your children – keep the suitcase at someone you trust.
- What do the neighbors know? Should they assist you / call the police if they hear noise from your apartment?
- Keep personal ID (passport, residence permits, work permits, driver’s license) in a safe place.
- Which legal resources can be applied in my situation?
